ISCnet: Europe’s Largest 40Gb/s InfiniBand Demonstration
While many tradeshows this year have suffered from declining vendor participation and user attendance, the high-performance computing community was out in full force this week at the International Supercomputing Conference (ISC’09) in Hamburg, Germany. The IBTA was well represented with several members exhibiting, including: Finisar, Fujitsu Limited, IBM, Intel, LSI, Mellanox , NEC, QLogic, SGI, Sun, Voltaire and W. L. Gore & Associates.
Aside from the major themes of the show - cloud computing, aeronautics, climate modeling - one of the significant stories from the IBTA perspective was the HPC Advisory Council and ISCnet’s demonstration of Europe’s largest 40Gb/s network running on InfiniBand. Twenty hardware, software and components vendors, along with end-users, teamed up to provide the necessary InfiniBand equipment to power the Remote Desktop over InfiniBand (RDI) demonstration.
Companies participating in the demo included: AMD, Avago Technologies, DataDirect Networks, Dell, Emcore, Eurotech, Finisar, QLogic, HP, LSI, Luxtera, Mellanox, Microsoft, NEC, QLogic, Scalable Graphics, ScaleMP, Sun, Supermicro, Tyco Electronics, Voltaire and Zarlink.
Each participating booth continuously received real-time, full HD-resolution desktop content of all other connected computers. Attendees were able to select, move, and resize in real-time, the exhibitors’ desktops. The multi-vendor network demonstration, not only showed the wide-range, interoperable InfiniBand ecosystem, but clearly demonstrated that the power of 40Gb/s InfiniBand is enabling real-time, HD-resolution remote desktop.
Please see below for photos from some of the participating booths.
I look forward to seeing many of my InfiniBand HPC colleagues at SC’09 in Portland, Oregon this November where the IBTA will be hosting a 10-year anniversary networking reception. Stay tuned for more information.
